Look into the future of advanced manufacturing and technology and it is clear that space - the last frontier - holds the key. At the forefront of advancing the development and commercialisation of new space technologies in Australia is Gilmour Space Technologies.

This Gold Coast-based company recently secured a $52 million grant from the Australian Government for a $156 million Australian Space Manufacturing Network (ASMN) project, which will establish three new space facilities in Queensland.

This includes a major precinct on the Gold Coast for space research and testing, and an advanced manufacturing facility for building commercial rockets and satellites to be anchored by Gilmour Space.  

It is a vision that has been driven by brothers Adam and James Gilmour on the Gold Coast since establishing their venture capital-backed launch services company in 2012.  

Gilmour Space’s high-tech launch vehicle, called Eris, is the first Australian-made rocket capable of taking satellites to orbit. The company’s world-class achievements have propelled them into the big leagues amid increasing global demand for smaller rocket launches.

Gilmour Space is leading the charge in building Australia’s sovereign capability in manufacturing launch vehicles, satellites, and other commercial space technologies for Australian and international customers.

“With participation from six states and territories in Australia, we see the ASMN as a genuine industry-led project that will provide the framework and infrastructure needed to unlock collaborations, create jobs and capability, attract private investment, and advance Australian space technologies from initial concept through to commercialisation and launch,” Gilmour said.

“Indeed, the global space economy is expected to grow to $1 trillion by 2030, and it’s time for our emerging space manufacturers to develop and mature significant and globally competitive space capabilities in Australia.”
