Visy

Visy shows faith in the City's sustainable future.

Visy is a global leader in the recycling, packaging and resource recovery industries. The company has built its reputation on an innovative approach providing end-to-end solutions for their customers’ needs across recycling, paper, primary packaging, fibre packaging, packaging supplies and logistics.

As part of their continuing investment in recycling and manufacturing in Australia, Visy are investing $500 million to build a new glass food and beverage container recycling and manufacturing facility in Stapylton, in the north of the city. The state-of-the-art facility will help increase the recycled content in Visy’s glass food and beverage packaging to 70%, world’s best practice. It will also reduce landfill and the use of natural resources by using the most modern optical sorting and resource recovery technology available.

The facility will recycle up to 200,000 tonnes of Queensland’s glass annually to produce one billion bottles a year. This will support Queensland’s world-class, iconic beverage manufacturers such as Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, Asahi, CUB, Lion and Coca Cola. The project will also create over 600 jobs in construction, and support 200 green collar, remanufacturing jobs once operational in 2025.

The site is located near Visy’s existing can and cardboard box manufacturing facilities, which will create a beverage container precinct in the region. Its location provides access to the M1 and is within an hour’s drive of two international airports and the Port of Brisbane. This investment also highlights the growing opportunities available in the circular economy and how the Gold Coast is well-placed to grow businesses in this sector.
