High Performance Sports Facility

In response to the Gold Coast’s desire to become the epicentre of high performance sports in the South Pacific, the City is undertaking a market process to identify a preferred proponent to deliver a new facility. 

The opportunity

The Lakeside Drive site is situated on one of the City’s premier sporting precincts, a short distance from People First Stadium, Carrara Indoor Sports Stadium and the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre. This central location also enables a sporting body to expand its operations across a wide catchment area from Northern New South Wales to southern Brisbane.

The City is seeking a suitable proponent to develop and operate the new high performance sports facility and field. The opportunity includes two field options – in Lakeside Drive or the Gold Coast Sports Precinct - with a preference to be determined through the market process.

It is envisaged the high performance sports facility will be a low-impact building and include outdoor recreation or sporting activity, food and beverage, change room and storage facilities.

Proponents are encouraged to create a vision that includes:

• co-location options for other sports bodies, codes or organisations
• support for grass root talent pathways 
• the advancement of gender diversity and accessible sport
• sports technology as it relates to our health and education.

Background

The Gold Coast is building its reputation as a high performance destination for sport teams and athletes to live, visit, train and compete.

The vision is to become the epicentre of sports in the South Pacific, but investment in infrastructure and partnering with professional sports bodies is required to provide the best facilities from stadiums, indoor arenas, training fields to high performance centres.

The high performance sports facility for the Gold Coast will create new jobs in our sports industry and be a catalyst for new partnerships and build enduring community value.
