Market process

A state-of-the-art facility that delivers on synergies between HOTA, Home of the Arts, and the associated digital industries to meet demand for education in digital media, film, television and radio.

The opportunity

We are seeking a proponent to support the proposed development and operation of a Digital Education, Screen and Production Facility.

Background

The film and television industry has a prominent role in the Gold Coast economy and has received a significant boost in recent years. The Gold Coast is a prime location for filming and production of large scale blockbuster international productions and television series, such as Elvis which was entirely picture and post-produced on the Gold Coast.

This has resulted in high demand for digital professionals. Key to supporting this thriving industry and addressing the skills shortage is a digital and screen education facility to provide opportunities for students to learn and work on the Gold Coast. The City has identified 6ha of land west of HOTA’s civic and cultural buildings within which a digital education, screen and production facility development could be located. It is envisaged that this will be a state-of-the-art education-based facility supporting the growth of this global industry in the Gold Coast region. This facility aims to attract high achieving students and staff.

Partnerships

The City will support the proponent to facilitate investment success through:

  • a collaborative approach with a single point of contact to ensure advice is clear and succinct, and timeframes are agreed and met.
  • organising and facilitating contact with key industry stakeholders and government advisors; assisting with navigating the development approval process.
  • supporting applications to City of Gold Coast, Queensland State and Australian government investment attraction programs or grants that may assist the proposal.
